Emergency Dentistry

When something goes wrong, call us first

Dental emergencies have terrible timing and a talent for panic. A tooth breaks on a Sunday barbecue rib. A toothache that was ignorable at breakfast is unbearable by dinner. A kid catches an elbow at practice. Whatever it is, take a breath and call us at (512) 646-4420. We hold room in our schedule for urgent problems, and we will do everything we can to see you the same day.
You do not need to be an existing patient. One of our Google reviews comes from a mom whose daughter needed an unexpected procedure, and we got her in first thing Monday morning and put her at ease. That is the standard we hold ourselves to when someone is hurting.

Emergency Dentistry

What counts as a dental emergency

Call immediately for a knocked out tooth, a broken or badly chipped tooth, severe or worsening pain, swelling in your face or jaw, uncontrolled bleeding, or a lost crown or filling that is causing pain. Swelling paired with fever deserves special urgency, because infections can spread and become genuinely dangerous.
Not sure whether your situation qualifies? Call anyway. Describing what happened takes two minutes, and we would much rather tell you it can safely wait than have you tough out something that could not. When it comes to mouths, sooner is almost always cheaper and easier than later.

Emergency Dentistry

What to do before you reach us

For a knocked out permanent tooth, minutes matter. Pick it up by the crown without touching the root, rinse it gently if dirty, and try to place it back in its socket. If that is not possible, keep it in a cup of milk and get here fast. Teeth replanted within the hour have a real chance of surviving.
For a broken tooth, rinse with warm water and use a cold compress against your cheek for swelling. For a toothache, rinse, floss gently to rule out something stuck, and take over the counter pain relief as directed. Do not put aspirin directly on your gums, which burns the tissue, and do not apply heat to a swollen face.

Fixing the problem, and calming the fear

When you arrive, we get straight to work. We will find the source of the trouble, usually with quick digital imaging, relieve the pain first, and then walk you through exactly what needs to happen, with honest pricing before we proceed. Sometimes the full repair happens same day. Sometimes we stabilize things and plan the lasting fix for a calmer appointment.
If dental fear is part of what kept you away, you will find no judgment in this office, and nitrous oxide is available to take the edge off while we work. Pain has a way of finding people who avoid the dentist. Our job is to break that cycle gently. Save our number, (512) 646-4420, and use it the moment you need it.
